are many ways that you can help the ACSPCA; such as volunteering,
donating items or fundraising opportunities. Below is a shelter
wish list, and below that are fundraising opportunities for the
community that will help the animals. Thank you for your support.

Partnership
Opportunities
The SPCA receives approximately 3% of its annual operating budget of $500,000 from the county and municipalities combined! We do fundraising, memberships, write for grants and receive some bequests, but we continue to struggle to support the very important task of caring for the many animals that come through our doors. In 2007 we took in over 2,500 animals and expect to take in more in 2008.
By sponsoring one of our annual events you are part of the solution to change the world we live in for the better. The Animals Thank You!

Attention all Landlords!!!!
The Adams County SPCA
is seeking to list "animal-friendly" landlords on our website. If
you already allow your tenants to have pets or are thinking of making
your housing available to renters with pets - please consider being
listed as a resource. Many people that are moving are very limited
in the rental housing
that is available to them that allows pets. Currently more and more
people are being
affected in a negative way as the mortgage crisis causes the loss
of their homes and too
often their beloved pets as well. A responsible pet owner should
never have to be forced
to make a decision that has negative consequences for both the pet
and the owner. The
Adams County SPCA can provide landlords with tips on how to screen
potential pet owning
tenants, sample referral letters, resumes, etc. Be a part of the
solution to ending pet
homelessness!
If you are interested, please call the Adams County SPCA at 717-334-8876

"One At a Time, A Week in an American Animal
Shelter"

"One At a Time, A Week in an American Animal Shelter"
$5.00 + $5.00 shipping/handling
With compelling photos and moving vignettes,
One at a Time: A Week in an American Animal Shelter
chronicles the true stories of 75 dogs and cats who passed through a typical U.S. animal shelter during one week. Each animal has an important lesson to teach and a powerful
message to share. Look into their eyes and let them give
you a riveting and unforgettable glimpse into this
nation's homeless animal tragedy.
Over half the households in America include an animal companion. Yet behind this immense love of animals lies an equally immense tragedy: each year, community animal shelters take in eight to twelve million lost and unwanted dogs and cats who face an uncertain fate.
Look into the eyes of these animals and let their stories give you a riveting and unforgettable glimpse into this nation's homeless animal tragedy. Whether it is the lost dog quickly reunited with his family because he was wearing an ID tag, the frightened cat given up by guardians who didn't understand the commitment of caring for her, the cat facing euthanasia or the dog joyfully adopted into a new home, each animal in One at a Time has an important lesson to teach and a powerful message to share.
One at a Time will help you to see the real faces behind the numbers, and to experience the miracles and heartbreak that play out every day in our nation's shelters... one animal at a time.
Even more importantly, One at a Time will give you hope, because this tragedy can be ended and each one of us can be part of the solution... offering us the chance to become better people, to reawaken our connection with other living beings, and to reaffirm the sanctity of life itself. The animals of One at a Time will show you how.
One at a Time: A Week in an American Animal Shelter is a project of
No Voice Unheard, a tax-exempt, non-profit 501(c)3 organization founded
by the authors, who are former shelter workers. They have no paid staff,
carrying out their work with a small group of dedicated volunteers who
come together out of a deep love of and respect for animals, and who
believe in the potential of One At A Time to create a better world for
our animal friends.

What YOU can do... (from www.novoiceunheard.org)
In our everyday lives, in the choices we make and the actions we take, we can
create change. These are the simple, yet profound, things we can do...
Understand the commitment we are making when we take an animal into our homes and lives, be ready and willing to accept that commitment in our hearts and minds, and make it a lifelong commitment.
Protect our animal companions from becoming lost by keeping them safely confined and always wearing current identification.
Spay and neuter our animals so that they do not contribute to companion animal overpopulation.
Save a life by adopting our next animal companion from a shelter.
Choose our companions thoughtfully and carefully to ensure we are making a good match that will last a lifetime;
Provide our companions with the basics of food and shelter and medical care, and also provide them with the love and companionship they need to be happy;
Include them as part of our families, socialize them so that they are comfortable in human society, train them so that they are safe and good citizens;
Work through problems with them, and include them in our own life changes;
Always demonstrate responsible and loving companion animal care so that others may learn from our example, and so that such care becomes the standard in our society.
These actions honor our animal friends, and show gratitude for the love and companionship they give to us so freely. These actions acknowledge their intrinsic value, and express respect for them as living beings. Moreover, these are the actions that, one at a time, begin to bring an end to the homeless animal tragedy, and they are in your power.
