Update on Maggie the Shih-tzu whose
ears fell off!
She smelled so bad, even the staff with the strongest stomachs, couldn’t stand to hold her. The little Shih Tzu that came in as a stray, had ears that were green with infection. The stench was that of maggots. Her coat had recently been groomed which is not the way strays usually look when we get them.
Since there is a fee for owner surrenders, some people prefer to forfeit their pets under the guise of being a stray. They even go so far as to provide a name that "could" be the dogs name but they aren’t sure. However; when they say the name it "could" be called, the dog whips its head around immediately recognizing the name. A few papers are signed and the "person of interest" walks away.
When the veterinarian tried to treat this little dog’s ears, they simply fell off; as if they were made of paper. There was nothing to do but trim the areas up and start a course of antibiotics. With TLC she healed. With a wonderful and kind family, she found a new home. She’s now a pampered pooch, living with another of her breed, that also doesn’t care if she has ears or not!
Maggie
here with her Dad (Scott Riddle) stopped by the shelter
to say "Hi" and to show us how pretty she is now. She sure
is pretty ... her hair has grown back and you can't even tell that
she hardly has any ears. Maggie was adopted by the Riddle family almost
a year ago, Maggie's other family members (Jenny & Jordan)
are not pictured. Maggie also shares her home with two other Shih-tzus
and two cats. The Riddles love Maggie soo much and she them. She is
a really sweet, absolutely gorgeous girl who got that second chance.
Who would have known that she looked and smelled soo bad a year ago.
Best wishes to the Riddle family and their little Maggie!

Nicki and her puppies get adopted!!!

Kayla Gebhart (foster) with Keith and Julie Meyer (the
new parents of Speck and Bud). Keith and Julie adopted
two of Nicki's puppies. Double the pleasure.
Nicki and her puppies
have all been adopted!! It all started when Nicki (a Beagle) was surrendered
to the shelter with no home or anyone to love her. She was the victim
of a home based rescue who was negligent with the care of unspayed
and unneutered animals. The so called rescue could not find a home
for her so they brought her here. Nicki was the sweetest, little loving
dog. We all loved her so much. Then we found out that she was pregnant. We
did not want her puppies to grow up in a shelter environment, we wanted
Nicki and her puppies to have all of the comforts of home. And that
is what they got. The Gebhart family stepped in and began fostering
the pregnant Nicki. The Gebharts kept us posted on how Nicki was doing
and told us what a wonderful dog she was. We all waited for the puppies.
The day came and Nicki gave birth to four of the cutest little puppies
you could ever see. They are Sharpie/Beagle mixes. The Gebharts took
great care of Nicki and her little ones until the puppies were ready
to be adopted. We knew the puppies would get adopted right away, and
that they did. But, in the back of our minds we were worried that
no one would want Nicki, would you believe she was adopted a day or
so later. Nicki went to a family that had met her when she was visiting
the shelter with her new bundles of joy for their shots!!! Everything
worked out just perfect!
Nicki with Steve and Candy Gebhart.
