Shelter honors Sally & Rick Meyers

The staff and Board of
Directors placed this stone at the front walkway of the shelter
to show their appreciation for Rick & Sally Meyers.
In honor and recognition
of Board Members Sally & Rick Meyers, the staff and Board of Directors
of the SPCA presented them with two statues and a stone at the shelter.
The one statue is of a young girl holding a kitten, the other a young
boy holding a puppy. The stone reads "In Honor and Recognition of
Sally and Rick Meyers with gratitude and appreciation Adams County
SPCA 2008". Sally and Rick have given much of their time, love,
and funds in support of the animals and our mission. Thank you
Sally and Rick!

Renee's "First Sky Dive"

Renee Weaver with Levi and Lisa Conklin, Director
of Development.
Renee Weaver,
manager of Brewskees Beer Distributor in New Oxford, did a fundraiser
for the Adams County SPCA. She gathered pledges in the amount of $400
for her very first sky dive on May 17th. Shown here
are Renee (on the left) with Levi (a dog Renee adopted
from the Adams County SPCA two years ago) and Lisa Conklin, Director
of Development. What a unique fundraiser idea ... there's a first
time for everything!!! Wonder if Renee will ever sky dive again???
Many thanks to Renee for taking the plunge and raising money for the
abandoned, unwanted animals!!!!

ACSPCA puppies on the set.
Nine Labrador-mix puppies
from the ACSPCA traveled to Washington, DC April 23rd for the filming
of "Puppy Games 2008". The puppies - seven boys and two girls, and
their Labrador mix mother were brought into the SPCA as strays the
day after the puppies were born. Petfinder was looking for puppies
between the ages of 9 weeks and 15 weeks for the show, even though
the puppies were only going to be 7 1/2 weeks old we decided to enter
them anyway. A few weeks later we learned that the nine puppies were
picked for the show.
Five of the ACSPCA staff traveled to Washington, DC with the nine
little pups in tow. It was a very noisy two hour ride and rumor has
it, that one of the staff members had tissue paper rolled up in her
ears to ease the pain. Filming for the show took place over three
days, but the ACSPCA bunch only had to be there for one day. About
50 very adorable puppies were there for the filming, with many more
coming and going up till 11:00 pm. All of the puppies names begin
with the letter "A", Mom is Amber, the pups are Ace, Aiden,
A.J., Aladdin, Alaska, Audrey, Austin, Autumn and Arizona.

Each puppy got their very own photoshoot.
The puppies participated in a swimming event where there was an Olympic
style swimming pool, the water started out shallow and then gradually
grew deeper. The film crew tried coaxing the puppies into the water,
without much success. The pups just wanted to run around slipping
and sliding. The show follows the style of the Animal Planet's "Puppy
Bowl", which airs to coincide with the Super Bowl each year. "Puppy
Games 2008" airs to coincide with the day the Summer Olympics begins
in Beijing. This is the first time for this Olympic style show. The
show will air on August 8th on the Animal Planet Channel. We will
keep you posted on the time.
TEAM MEMBERS RAISE MONEY FOR THE SPCA
The Conewago Valley
Youth Basketball Association (CVYBA) Rink A Girls team presented
a $330.30 check to the Adams County SPCA. Team members raised the
money throughout the season by asking family and friends for monetary
donations based on the points the team members scored. Pictured are,
from left, Kaelyn Long, Annie Miller, Ashlyn Nailor, Lyric Lebo, Breanne
Sauter, Madison Smith, Jenna Plump, Haley Luckabaugh and Ayanna Johnson,
and Lisa Conklin, Director of Development of the Adams County SPCA.

DONATIONS FROM ONE FURRY FRIEND TO ANOTHER!
Shelter Technician Aimee
Milarski with Yvonne Erridge and her three Bernese Mountain
Dogs, Max, Reno and Madison.
Yvonne, Max, Reno and
Madison stopped by the shelter and donated a large amount of dog and
puppy food for their furry friends here at the shelter. Max, Reno
and Madison also made sure to bring lots of dog treats (they know
how important treats are) and they didn't forget the cats and brought
the cats food and treats. All of the animals here were delighted and
we thank Yvonne and her crew for this generous donation.
BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR THE ACSPCA ANIMALS!
The girls in the photo are: (front row, left to right): Rachel,
Madi, Kelly (birthday girl), Haylee and Kirsten.
Second row: Leah, Lauren, Brandy, Sarah
and Sazi.
Kelly Hendricks requested on her party invitations, that her guests
please bring donations for the SPCA in lieu of presents. Between the
10 girls, they contributed a total of 140 pounds of cat & dog food,
8 bottles of cleaner and 4 packs of sponges. The girls were truly excited
to see how all their "gifts" added up to a mountain of food. All the
parents thought it was a wonderful idea as well. The girls did cat-themed
face painting for the party. Kelly has always been an animal-lover and
she dreams about working with animals or being a vet one day. So, she
was happy to combine her birthday celebration with her love of animals!
Children Raise Funds for SPCA

Pictured here are Mrs. Peggy Bell, Reading Specialist at Baresville
Elementary School (on left) in Hanover, PA, her first grade class and
Lisa Conklin, Director of Development for the Adams County SPCA.
Peggy's students each drew a picture of an animal on cloth. The 20 cloth pictures were then made into a quilt by volunteer Roslyn Ream. The school raised $500 for the quilt and those who donated the money, turned around and donated the original quilt to the school where it will stay for all to see! Each of the 20 children were presented with a framed color print of the quilt and a certificate of appreciation from the Adams County SPCA.
Peggy Bell will continue her efforts with the school to raise donations
of money, goods and memberships for the Adams County SPCA. Thank you
to Peggy and Principal Chris Blevins of Baresville Elementary.
Computer donated to the SPCA by a Senior at Fairfield
High School
Joe Owens a Senior
at Fairfield High School (in the middle) is shown here presenting
a top of the line computer he built from scratch to staff member Tammy
VanMeter and Shelter Director Scott McLaughlin. This is his big Senior
project which all Seniors are required to do in order to graduate.
The project actually begins in their Sophomore year when they are
required to state what their project will be and continues up until
they graduate. During the senior year they do many things that involve
their projects to include a pictogram, several term papers, as well
as a large presentation before a panel of judges in March. We are
so thankful that he has chosen to donate the computer to the Adams
County SPCA.
11th Birthday Party Gone to the Dogs!!!

Friends since the age
of 3, Jenna T. and Jesse H., shared their 11th birthday
with their friends. Instead of receiving gifts, the friends asked
their guests to bring a gift for the Adams Co. SPCA. Guests brought
paper towels, buckets, wipes, treats, toys, 75+ lbs. of pet food,
and approx. $100 in Wal-Mart gift cards. Many parents commented, "What
a great idea! We'll have to try something like that." Both Jenna and
Jesse attended Lincoln Elementary in Gettysburg this year and participated
in Community Service projects through the school. They decided to
continue the community service with their birthdays being the springboard.
As a nonprofit organization we rely heavily on the citizens of Adams
County for support. It is such an honor when the younger generation
views our cause as a worthy one. You can be assured that the donations
given to us will go to good use. Thanks to Jenna & Jesse for giving
up their Birthday gifts to help our critters!!!
