Nothing feels better than helping our animals on their journey to find a forever home where they can love and be loved. We thank everyone of our adoptive families for opening their hearts and homes to the forgotten animals.

Life for Angel has completely turned around!

Angel (in the middle) smiling from ear to ear looking so proud of her new family, Chloe and Emma and her new friend Sheila, the Sheltie!

One morning when the SPCA staff reported to work, much to their surprise, there sat seven dogs in the police pen. Angel was one of the 7 dogs, along with four of the cutest little puppies you could ever see. She was very worried about the safety of her little babies and was very protective. Imagine just being dumped somewhere unfamiliar not knowing what was going to happen. Later we learned that her family were Carnies and their boss said no more dogs. So they dropped all of them off late in the night. In time, Angel became to know and trust us and we all formed a very strong bond with her. She was truly one special dog and we were all ecstatic when she found the wonderful home that she now has with the Musick family. Angel wrote us a little letter to let us know that she was doing great:

Hello Friends at Adams County SPCA! It's me, Angel Rae. I am the tall one in the middle. I am smiling because I love my new family so much. They keep telling me what a good girl I am. I like running in my new backyard, and there are these two little girls named Chloe and Emma who like to hug and kiss me all the time! There's also this little dog named Sheila. Sometimes we play, but mostly we just stare at each other. We all just want to thank you for helping us find each other. We are very happy!

The Musick Family

Angel is chillin' with Emma. She sure looks like she is loving her new family!

Peanut with his new brother and sister!

Damon, Peanut (in the middle) & Desi at treat time!

Peanut has finally found the perfect family and what a handsome family these three are. Peanut, a Pitbull, was brought to the SPCA as a stray and waited for three long months before the big day came and he was adopted by Kelly Koch and Stacey Cape and two other Pitbulls. His new name is Marley, thanks to a Bob Marley song that came on the radio on the way home from the SPCA. Marley stopped by with his new Dad, Stacey for a visit and showed off some of his new tricks that he has learned, like how to sit and down. He is still working on "give paw" but he will have that one mastered soon!!! Life couldn't get any better for Marley!! Kelly & Stacey wrote us this little note:

Marley (aka Peanut) has been a great addition to our pack. He acts just like a younger brother to Desi and Damon and is turning out to be a great lap warmer! This is the first rescue pitbull (Desi and Damon were rescues from other SPCA's) that came to us a truly happy dog. I tell everyone that meets Marley what a great job the Adams Co. SPCA staff did to give Marley so much love that he remained so happy, that is no small feat!!

His name change came to us on the ride home from the SPCA when a Bob Marley song came on and he was riding in the back seat just enjoying the ride, looking like he had no worries.

Thanks for giving us a great dog and giving Marley so much love when he needed a second chance in life!

Kelly Koch and Stacey Cape

Marley giving Dad kisses!

Marley, Damon, & Desi tuckered out from playing. What a rough life!!

Lancelot - the dog everyone likes!!

Lancelot stopped by with his new Dad, Bob Geedey.

From being a stray with nowhere to go, Lancelot has become a Man's best friend and quite the traveled young man. Bob said that Lancelot has been to New York, West Virginia, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey and lots of other places. Bob said that Lancelot is a very special dog and everyone he meets just loves him. Of course he is riding in style in a big truck with his new family Bob Geedey and Thomas Geedey. Lancelot sleeps in the air conditioned bunk with the Geedey's and is loved very much. Bob said that "Lancelot has been a great inspiration to him". A year ago, Lancelot arrived to the SPCA as a stray and waited for someone to come looking for him ... but no one ever did. It didn't take long for Lancelot to catch the Geedey's eye and he was quickly adopted. We sure enjoyed the visit with Lancelot and Bob, and we are soo happy that he is doing great!!!

"Freckles" is now living life the way it should be!!
Sprawled out on a couch!

Freckles was living in horrible conditions and was surrendered to the SPCA as a request from the Humane Officer. She now has a new life and a new name, her new name is Sophie.

Freckles aka Sophie was four months old and never knew what it was like to be inside. Thanks to the person who turned in a Humane Complaint, Freckles and 5 other dogs were spared living a life of pain and suffering. Freckles is now happily living with her new Mom, Lisa Angstadt, her new brother Leo a Westie mix, and two cats. Sophie has been in her new home for one week and her new Mom just loves her. Sophie's Mom sent us this email:

"Here's Sophie enjoying her new "tough life"...she really has adjusted wonderfully to the household! Like I said, she has been amazing with housebreaking. She obeys the "go potty" command very well (helps when it is followed by some Pupperoni's). She also is doing pretty well with the two cats. She has learned to leave them alone, although she does dart after them every once and awhile. They let her know not to do that, though!"

"We took our first hike on Sunday down along the Potomac River and she was a real trooper on the leash, with a harness. Picked her up a few times when she was getting tired, but not for long, she's got lots of energy!!! I tried to crate her the first night, but she wanted absolutely no part of that. Poor thing cried and howled nonstop until I took her out. I was bad and let her sleep in my bed. She sleeps straight through the night though, so no big deal with letting her up with me!!!! No accidents yet!"

We are soo happy for Sophie and wish her and her new family the best!!!

Sophie enjoying the "tough life".

"Snoopy" is getting used to the spoiled life!

Snoopy (his new name is Kane) is loving life in his new home!

Snoopy was born here at the shelter shortly after his pregnant Mom, Matilda arrived. Snoopy, his Mom and siblings were taken to the home of the Gebhart family, where they began the first 8 weeks of their life. They were given lots of love and attention and they all became very social little pups. They were such cute little bundles of white fur, with all of them looking alike and it sure didn't take them long to all find wonderful new homes. We just received this email from Snoopy's new Mom & Dad, Mike Barth & Chris Pate.

"We just wanted to let you know that Kane (aka Snoopy) is adjusting well to life here with us. He is becoming very spoiled already. His sisters Piper & Bailey are getting along well with him. Thanks for letting us adopt such a great puppy!!"

Mike Barth & Chris Pate

Snoopy looks like he fits in perfectly with his new family.

"HAPPINESS IS A NEW PUPPY"
from the Cohen family!!!

"Our first look at Shelly and we knew that she was the dog for us."

"How could we not adopt a pup with a face like that. She’s been living with us for a week, and we changed her name from Shelly to Ellie. She had a relaxing 2 hour ride home in the car. She slept almost the entire way, and is a wonderful traveler. She’s frisky, healthy and her obedience training is progressing quickly."

"She’s a smart pup and is fitting in and adjusting well to her new home. She’s already stolen our hearts. I just wanted to let you know how much we appreciate the work you do caring for and protecting animals. Thank you so much for taking care of Ellie (Shelly) before we found our new family member.

Sincerely,
The Cohen’s

Shelly tuckered out!!!

Shelly was dropped off one night at the ACSPCA in the police pen, with 6 of her brothers and sisters. 7 dogs in one pen - 3 adults and 4 little teeny tiny puppies. It was not a fun night for them, I am sure. Shelly's previous family are "Carnies" and they did not have a house. Their boss told them that they could not have the dogs anymore at the Carnival, so they just dumped all of them off one night. Despite all of this, she was a very sweet girl. We know that she was hoping to get a better start at life than she's had and it sure looks to me like her new life is FANTASTIC!!!! Congratulations to Shelly and her new family!!!!

Shelly giving her new Mom kisses!!!

JERICHO HAS COME A LONG WAY!!!!!

Jericho pictured here enjoying his new yard and his new life!!!

Jericho was living on a 2-foot chain, in an ice-filled shelter. He weighed only 38 pounds ... he was dying. Months later, he survived through all of this and has been adopted to a wonderful family, the Carmichael family. He has soo many people to thank for his life ... first and foremost the utility worker who reported his living conditions to the authorities (you are an angel), to Brandi Luther the Humane Officer who worked soo hard on this animal cruelty case, and to his foster family and to all of you for giving your love and support. Without all of you, he probably would not be here today.

Jericho at 38 pounds. He could not have survived much longer.

We just received a little note and some pictures from Jericho's new family. We were all soo happy to see him living the life that he deserves, many tears of happiness were shed.

"Just wanted to share some pics and let you know that Jericho has adjusted quite well. It's been two weeks now! He saw Dr. Wagner yesterday and received a "clean bill of health". Hard to believe after reviewing his records from last winter. Some of the pics are of his favorite spot beside the house and the flower garden, one of him overlooking his new kingdom and one playing with one of our nephews. We were told he is rough with kids so we knew exactly which kids to introduce him to!"

"Always wondered why so many people spent so much of their limited resource on one dog but it certainly turned out to be the right decision in the end. We will make up for his lost years. Please thank everyone involved."

Rex and Molly

We love you Jericho!

A BRIGHTER LIFE FOR SUNSHINE!!

Sunshine (grey tabby on the right) and her new sister Gracie (formerly Moo) being pals. Both were adopted from the Adams County SPCA.

Sunshine is loving her new home. It's a far cry from being a stray out on the streets, then stuck in the shelter for four months hoping to find a new home. Well it looks like she has found the perfect home with the Tom's family. They adopted Sunshine and have given her a wonderful new life and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts. Here is a little note from Wendy Tom's:

Its been almost 6 months since our Little Miss Sunshine joined our family. Gracie (formerly known as Moo) adores her and they can often be found basking in the sunroom. Lindsay taught Sunshine some tricks and being a quick study she does them right along side of Gracie. Her specialty is waving Hi ! She is a sweet little cat with a lot of personality. Many thanks to her guardian angel for helping to bring a little Sunshine into our lives. Also many thanks to all the staff and volunteers at the Adams County SPCA for all your hard work and devotion to all Gods creatures great and small.

Sunshine & Gracie hanging out together.

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT!!!!!

When Renee Gillette stumbled across the Adams County SPCA's website she immediately wanted to meet Rocket. That was Rocket's lucky day! Renee came all the way from New York to meet Rocket and has given him a wonderful new home. Renee sent us some pictures of Rocket at his new home and a little note. Here is the note:

Rocket has adjusted very well to his new home in Western New York. He has two pasture buddies, a miniature donkey named Buckwheat and a miniature horse named Hope. Rocket has learned very fast that Ms. Hope is the boss, the whole 32" of her.

I have been moving very slow with Rocket and, he has his good days and, his bad days but even on his bad days he would never think of harming me he would just rather plant his feet in the ground and NOT MOVE ONE INCH! He is a very fast learner when he isn't being stubborn (he bows for cookies). I have been riding him but we are working on the very basics and I don't want to push him, he has a wonderful trot. Hopefully this winter he will be going to a Training facility where he can become familiar with jumping. I would like to compete with him someday.

All in all I would have to say Rocket has stolen my heart! I am very glad I just so happened to come across the Adams County SPCA web site. The very instant I saw him I wanted to meet him, and now I can't picture my pasture without him.

Renee riding Rocket.

TED LOVES HIS NEW FAMILY!!!!!

Ted's new family just loves him, even though he is a very big boy (hope that piece of wood doesn't break)!

Ted's new Mom & Dad (Tammy & Matt Shull) sent us a little note to let us know that Ted is doing great in his new home. Here's the note:

"I just wanted to let you know that we are so glad that we adoped "Ted". He is an absolute sweetheart! He gets along great with our other goats, and follows them everywhere. They were a little leary of him at first (I guess because he is so much bigger than them), but now everyone is as happy as can be. He really enjoys being with all of the other goats. Our goats took him down to the woods and "Ted" gets to eat the goodies that everyone else can not reach because he is taller than them : ) I'll send more pics when I get a chance. Please let everyone at the shelter know that Ted is doing great!"

We are used to getting "Happy Tails" for dogs and cats, but it's not often that we have a goat "Happy Tail". There's a first time for everything!! We are soo happy that Ted has found a new home with soo many goats to hang out with.

Ted is having fun being King of the "Plank".
He sure looks happy with his new family below!!!!!

SPINDLE CRUISED BY TO SAY HELLO!!!!

Spindle (the driver) and Noodle (the passenger) in the BMW convertible.

Remember Spindle???? We all remember Spindle ... the pictures, I'm sure none of us will ever forget. Well, Spindle cruised by on a sunny warm day this week in the BMW convertible with his new brother, Noodle, just to say Hello to us. He also said to please tell all of you, that soo deeply cared about him, that he said "Hi" and that he was doing great in his new home. Spindle told us that he loves his new brother ... even though they squabble every now and then over a bone. Brotherly love, nothing like it. Spindle now has a body full of really soft black and white fur and was just smiling from ear to ear. We think he also stopped by to have his back end rubbed, because he knew every single one of us would rub his bum, and yes he still loves it!!! We were soo glad that he was out cruising and stopped by. We sure miss him and are soo glad that he is doing soo great!!!!

SHADY & MARY LOU IN THEIR NEW HOME!!!

Shady aka Lilly Rose catching a cat nap.

Shady was surrendered to the shelter because her owners new home did not allow cats. When she arrived she had one eye that was a real mess, we couldn't tell if it was even there. We did figure out that it was there and was causing her pain and it was constantly infected. So to keep her comfortable it was decided it was best to remove the eye. Shady was here for five months waiting for a new home. The Stely family had already adopted Mary Lou, who came to us as a stray, and then after not being able to get Shady out of their minds, decided later to adopt Shady. We received this note from the Stely family:

"While at the SPCA adopting Evie Grace (formerly Mary Lou) we saw another beautiful cat sitting in a cage waiting for someone to come along and give her a home. Her name was Shady and she had something wrong with her eye. We made a few trips over to check on her once in a while, but still she sat there. One day we heard that she had been sent to the vet to be spayed and to have her eye removed because it kept getting sore. She just sat there in the cage so quietly and patiently waiting for someone to come. She just stayed in our minds. So back over we go to bring her home too!"

"She is now known as Lilly Rose, (we decided she needed a prettier name because she is such a beautiful young lady). Now Lilly sits in the window in the sun, or sleeps in the center of a big comfortable chair. Lilly's favorite thing to do is to run to the tub when she hears someone coming so that they turn the water on for her, even though she has plenty of fresh clean water in her bowl. She naps in the window or in the bathroom sink. Though she is still quiet, she is such a sweetie. We just can't resist squeezing her whenever we walk by!

From the Stely family

Evie Grace (formerly Mary Lou) loving life in her new home!!!

A HAPPY TAIL ABOUT A FAITHFUL FRIEND!!!

This is Odie aka Cody, Tara Toms faithful friend.

Odie was brought in as a stray dog. He had such a wonderful personality and was always smiling! He was always soo happy to see people and loved to get outside! Full of life. Odie was at the shelter for a little over a month looking for his new home. Good things happen to those who wait ... in this case, that is soo true. Here is a little "Happy Tail" from Tara.

"My name is Tara Toms. Toward the end of fall last year I met my perfect companion and best friend at the Adams County SPCA. At the time, his name was Odie, and the moment I met him I knew I wanted to take him home. I had been traveling around and living a sort of transient lifestyle for quite a while, but after meeting that special dog I knew that I wanted to settle down a bit and get my act together so that my new dog friend would have a stable life. I prayed that God would let everything work out if it was meant to be, and through His divine providence, I was able to adopt that dog and promise him the bright future he deserves."

"I switched his name to Cody, and immediately got him started on some very high quality dog food and nutritional supplements so he would be feeling great. I am happy to say that today, Cody is a shiny, healthy dog who just radiates a "feel good" attitude. All of my friends describe him as their "favorite dog ever" and I'd have to say I wholeheartedly agree! Cody has been one of the greatest blessings to my life, and I am a better person for knowing him. He is unfailingly loyal, respectful, gentle, and obedient. I spend a great deal of time working with him on his manners, taking him for long hikes up in the mountains, (especially the AT!) and teaching him tricks, providing for him activities that stimulate his brilliant mind! Cody impresses all of my guests with his calm and confident presence, and he loves to show off all the great tricks I've taught him."

"I am still working with him to overcome a few issues that have been tougher for him to resolve, such as his desire to fixate on cats.. But he is making steady progress. He sleeps right beside me in bed, with his head on my shoulder. In the evenings I let him share the recliner with me while I do my reading for the day. He is my constant faithful friend, we are truly inseparable! He loves to ride in my car, and I take him almost everywhere with me. My goal is to have him certified as a service dog, so I can take him to nursing homes and hospitals. I think he has the perfect temperament for it!"

"Because I have enjoyed having Cody in my life so much, I have decided to pursue canine obedience and rehabilitation as a career. I would like to someday become a behavior specialist. I have Cody to thank for helping me realize that passion. Thank you all again for what you do, without the Adams County SPCA I would have never met my best friend!"

Tara

Best friends, Tara and Cody.

SPUDS HAS WROTE US A LETTER FROM HIS NEW HOME!!
Read below

"Hi guys, I just wanted to let you know that I am doing great in my new home, so I typed up a little note for you guys for the "Happy Tails" page. I miss you all.".

Hi, I'm a Jack Russell Terrier, and my name at the Adams County SPCA was Spuds. One day my new Mom discovered my adorable photo on the SPCA's web site and saw that I was adoptable. I was out there in the world all on my own, then luckily someone found me and took me to the SPCA. I was there for a couple of weeks, and managed to wiggle myself into everyone's heart, and then one day my big day came, and I was adopted.

My new Mom and Dad continued to call me Spuds, but I wasn't very good about responding. One day my Dad started trying different names and just happened to say "Skipper." Well, I got all excited and jumped around because that sounded very familiar, so they changed my name to Skip Jack, so I'd have a fancy name, but they call me Skipper.

I respond very well to Skipper and I love my new home. I get healthy, home cooked dog food, lots of chew toys, lots of exercise, excellent veterinarian care and spoiled, spoiled, spoiled. I have 2 sisters and a brother who tolerate me fairly well, a couple of cats who ignore me, but I'm really a Daddy's boy. Dad lets me lounge all over him every evening, and I do love to lounge! I'm so laid back, they occasionally take my pulse, just to make sure I'm alive.

My new Mom and Dad wouldn't take a million dollars for me, and that makes me feel very, very special! I may have lost a home, but I sure got another great one. Thanks SPCA!

Skipper

Like Spuds said ... spoiled, spoiled, spoiled!!

We are soo glad that Spuds aka Skipper took the time out of his busy schedule lounging to write us and is doing great in his new home. Congratulations to Skipper and his new family!!!!

ROSIE IS LOVING HER NEW LIFE!!!!

"This is not the toy aisle Dad!" says Rosie.
Rosie is out shopping at PetSmart with her new Daddy (Dean).

Rosie was once an unwanted dog with no hair, just dropped off on a very cold day at the front door of the SPCA with not even the respect of her owner walking her in the door. But believe it or not, that was one lucky day for little Rosie. She spent a couple of months at the shelter receiving lots of medical attention for her Dermadex to get her hair back and through it all she was a barrel of fun!!!! She was loved soo much around here by everybody, she even was fostered by one of the staff here so she didn't have to sit in a cage.

Rosie now called Daisy stopped by for a visit with her Mom and Dad (Tammy Campbell & Dean Heusner). They brought along a ton of pictures ... of course all of Rosie in her new home. It looks like she is getting spoiled rotten. Rosie loves to take naps with her Daddy and she has her Mom & Dad wrapped around her little paw. When Rosie wants a treat she just goes in to the kitchen, stands and stares. She's rotten. She loves her squeaky toys and she loves to play with all of the neighborhood dogs. Tammy said that Rosie is very well trained, she will sit to get hooked up on the leash to go outside and sit when she gets back inside to get unhooked. Gosh, who has a dog that does that???

Rosie taking a cat nap!!

Come on Mom, put that camera down it's nap time!!!!!

Rosie sure got lucky that cold day in December and we are very thankful that Tammy & Dean are giving her a wonderful life. Congratulations to Rosie and her new family!!!!!

A LITTLE MESSAGE FROM ANGEL!!!!

Angel (now called Ady) has been shuffled around in her short little life, but she now has found her forever home with the Hankey family. Angel was first brought to the SPCA with five other dogs, surrendered by their owner. All five found homes, one of them even had puppies here at the SPCA and all were adopted. However; Angel was brought back a few months later and yet again, surrendered because of potty training issues and chewing. The Hankey's knew all of Angel's issues and still wanted to give this beautiful little girl a home. From what Ady wrote above, everything is going great!!! Thank you to the Hankey's for giving Angel what she really needs ... a loving family!!

TEARS OF JOY AT THE ACSPCA!!!!
SPINDLE WAS ADOPTED!!!!!

A group picture with Spindle before he left for his new home. Spindle is getting just one more hug from volunteer, John Grunza who has visited with Spindle at least once a week over the nine months that he has been here.

Spindle waited nine long months for the day that the right family would come and make him a part of their family, and boy what a glorious day it was!!! The Laughman family had been watching and following Spindle's story and decided to come meet him and see how their current dog would get along with Spindle. The meeting went perfect, they seemed to not be too interested in each other at all, definitely no competition. Well, maybe for attention, Spindle and the Laughman's dog both love attention. Spindle has not lived in a home for quite some time … well we don't know if he ever did, so it is a big adjustment. Tina Laughman (Spindles new Mom) called us and told us that Spindle is doing excellent and is such a sweet dog. She said that the first night Spindle was home he stood and stared at her for three hours!! He didn't know what to do, she kept telling him that it was okay to lay down and he finally curled up in his bed and relaxed. Spindle has become so relaxed that he's tried to climb into her lap several times and she hates to tell him that he's too big to be a lap dog. You can't blame a guy for trying!!!!

The day Spindle arrived at the shelter nine months ago.

Spindle has come a long way since we first met him nine months ago. He was one of the worst cases of neglect that we have ever seen. In time, he went from a hairless, lethargic, withdrawn and very skinny dog, to a bouncing bundle of fur. At first Spindle would not come out of his dog house, for nobody, only when they were gone would he try to get enough strength to walk to his food bowl. His road to recovery has been a struggle, but he made it. Spindle will always have a special place in our hearts, as well as the many other people who have helped Spindle, such as our veterinarian, Dr. Megan Brown, our volunteers, all of his Guardian Angels and the ones that have followed his story. We want to thank each and every one of you for making donations for Spindle. Spindle has had a rough life ... but he knew he had a lot of people that cared about him and that is what helped him get through this. Hopefully we will be able to post some pictures of Spindle in his new home.

We are soo happy for Spindle and we will never forget his smile!!

REMEMBER HECTOR????

Hector's new Mom (Tina Dorn) sent us this picture of Hector at Christmas. He sure looks like he's having fun ... hee hee!!!

It has been a little over a year now since Hector found his new home. Hector's new family wanted to let us know how he was doing in his new home so they sent us these pictures and a little note. We just had to share these pictures ... cause he's so darn cute!!!! Here's the little note:

Hector adjusted well to our home and our kids. About a month after we adopted Hector we got another dog, a 125 lbs. Rottweiler, and the 2 of them romp around the house and play non stop. Hector loves to chase his tail, I have never had a dog that would do that, and sometimes he actually catches it! He is still a little afraid of strangers and tends to run away from them until he gets to know them. His favorite place to be is curled up on someone's lap on the couch sleeping, and we are all to willing to let him. He snores, really loudly. You would think it is a person it is so loud. But we love him and wouldn't change anything about him.

We love these Happy Tails and wish Hector and his new family the best !!!!!

Isn't he cute!!!!

LULU LOOKS HAPPY IN HER NEW HOME !!!!

Lulu loves chillin' on the couch and spending time with her new family!!!!

Lulu came to the shelter as a very loving, friendly, stray cat. She patiently waited for a month and a half to be adopted. Lisa Romero and her family saw Lulu's beauty and friendliness, so they adopted her as a new member of the family. Lisa said that Lulu is a complete joy to the family and her little daughter absolutely loves Lulu. Lulu is spoiled rotten and even gets to sleep with Lisa at night. They are really enjoying the time with Lulu, and love her playful ways and said she is a lot of fun. Congratulations to Lulu and her new family!!!!

CASSIE & FISHER IN THEIR NEW HOME !!!!

Cassie (Tortie) and Fisher (black) hanging out in the windowsill of their new home !!

Cassie aka Hermione and Fisher aka Fiona were both adopted to the Burke family together on the same day. They both had bad starts in life ... but now have a wonderful family. Cassie was brought in with her siblings abandoned by their mother at about one week old, without their mother they were going to need to be hand fed every two hours. Cassie and her siblings were sent to a foster home where they received the care that they needed and were brought back many weeks later ready to go to adoption. Fisher was rescued from a pond that she fell into and could not get out by herself. Some kind person saved her from drowning and brought her to the SPCA. Hence how she got the name Fisher. Fisher had a runny nose and sneezing and was taken to a foster home, where she received medications and lots of love. She was brought back for adoption and the Burke family fell in love with both of them.

The Burke family, Julia & Kevin and Elizabeth & Colin absolutely love the two. Julia said that Cassie and Fisher are great with the kids, they have never hissed or scratched the kids. Fisher loves to steal pens and can catch cat balls with both of her paws. Fisher tries to help Cassie clean herself and licks her all over, the two are inseparable. Cassie is a little thief and loves to steal beanie babies and drag them around the house like a little lion. Cassie also ate a corner of Julia's very first paycheck, luckily it was still salvageable. Fisher is such a gentle young lady, she loves to cuddle and even lets Cassie push her way to the food first, and waits. We are soo happy for the Burke family!!!!

Cassie catching up on some reading, or possibly some snoozing !!!!

BJ GETS A SECOND CHANCE AT THE LIFE HE DESERVES !!!

BJ shown here on his big adoption day, with Sara Dick (Shelter Tech)
and his new Mom (JoAnn Price).

BJ has had a really bad beginning in life ... and now he has a happy ending. BJ was dumped off in the mountains, 20 miles from his home. We received a tip that his owners had taken him to the mountains and abandoned him, so we got word out to all of the Dog Wardens in the surrounding counties and BJ was found alive and brought here to the shelter. What was poor BJ thinking as he sat 20 miles from home in the mountains all alone? Well, BJ will never have to worry about that happening to him again. BJ has found a new forever home with JoAnn Price and he will be sharing his new home with Nikki a 13 year old Boxer. Congratulations to BJ and his new family !!!

BJ in one of his favorite positions ... getting one more belly rub from Sara before he leaves.

PARIS HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY ADOPTED
BY HIS FOSTER MOM !!!

Paris (his new name is Thomas) lounging in his new home ... for good!!!

Paris aka Thomas has been officially adopted by his foster Mom, Laurie Gantz. Laurie is a volunteer here at the shelter and spends many hours with the cats. Laurie spends more time with the cats and knows them better than anyone here. She has fostered many cats and kittens nursing them back to health then bringing them back when they were healthy. She took Paris home to make him well when he was sick; however, she did not bring Paris back, she fell in love with him and has decided to adopt him. He has been a part of her family for a couple of months now and fits in very well with the rest of Laurie's kitty crew. Laurie told us "Paris loves playing with his two brothers, Benji and Toby and loves most of his sisters especially Molly and Buttons. He loves playing on the cat walks in their special cat room, splashing in water in the sink, chasing the laser light and carrying toy mice all over the house. We love our new "baby!"

Congratulations to Paris and his new family !!!!

Paris chillin' some more in his forever home !!!!

DERBY STOPPED BY FOR A VISIT !!!

Derby says "Hi" to everyone !!!

Derby is now living the life of luxury with his Mommy (Sandra Masenheimer). In fact, the two of them just got back from a trip to Pigeon Forge Tennessee ... of course, Derby did all the things that tourists do, he toured the streets of Gatlinburg, even went in all of the shops till 11:00 one night, and of course he was riding in style in his new stroller. Derby said it was a long ride there, but he got to ride shotgun in the front seat and have his own little bed to curl up in. It couldn't get any better. Derby and Sandra are just perfect for each other. We are soo happy that Derby found Sandra, and Sandra found Derby!!!! We miss you Derby!!!

TINY IS DOING GREAT IN HER NEW HOME !!!

Tiny is loving her new life !!!

Tiny was rescued from the streets of Gettysburg by a young man. When he found her, her eyes were very infected. He took her to the vet who said they could treat her eyes, but eventually one of them would have to be removed. Soon after, her new owner was deployed to Iraq. So, Tiny was brought to the SPCA not by choice, but with no other option. Due to malnutrition from being out on the streets for soo long, Tiny's eye had to be removed. She survived the operation with flying colors and was adopted to Larry and Tina Thompson. The Thompson's sent us this picture of Tiny with a letter. Here's is what the letter said:

"In April, we adopted a little cat whom you called Tiny. She had one eye surgically removed and the other eye was recovering from infection. She is now called Whiskers, and she is doing great. She has no eye problems at all and having only one eye, does not slow her down any. She weighs about 7 pounds (still a small cat), but thinks she is bigger than what she is by wrestling with our other cats, whom are twice her size. She is very spoiled and loves treats, catnip and dog food. She is the busiest and funniest cat I have ever seen. We have five pets (3 shelter cats, 1 former stray cat and a Golden Retriever). Pets give so much and ask for so little. Thank you for all that you do for them."

Sure sounds like Tiny is loved very much in her new home! Congratulations to Tiny and her new family!

RICHIE IS ENJOYING HIS NEW LIFE !!!!

Richie chillin' in his new home !!!

Richie a really sweet yellow lab found a new home with Bob & Joan Strausbaugh. Richie was a stray and had patiently waited for two months for the happy day that he would walk out the front doors of the shelter with a new family!!! Here's a little note from Richies' new Mom (Joan):

"We are settling into a routine: he sleeps on the floor at the foot of the bed, and in the morning, he waits for my husband to take him out. When he comes back in, Richie heads for my side of the bed, and at my invitation, jumps up and naps with me until it is time for us to rise and shine. We patrol a fourty acre property, so take half hour walks three or four times a day: there is no limit to his energy! He is always ready to go, and I am looking forward to summer, when he will be able to swim in the creek. I wish I could run with him, but my knees say NO WAY! So I am also looking forward to the time he comes to the call of his name, so we can walk (or run) off leash here on the property."
Joan Strausbaugh

Another Happy Tail!!!! Congratulations to the Strausbaughs'!!!

REMEMBER MOO ???? !!!!

Moo aka "Gracie" giving a high five for her new life!!!!

Gracie (formerly Moo) is totally enjoying her new home. Moo was at the shelter for two months waiting for her new home and luck came her way when the Toms' family fell in love with her and took Gracie to her new home.

Here's a little note we received from the Toms' family:

"Gracie, formally known as Moo, is doing wonderful in her new home with the Toms'. Gracie and her new friend, Pixel, the dwarf rabbit, love to run around the house and play. Gracie is learning tricks. She knows how to sit, laydown, situp and high-five. Her favorite trick to do is high-five. Gracie is very loved in her new home."

Wow, a cat that does high-five!!! She is one awesome cat! Congratulations to Gracie and her new family!!

CODY IS HAVING A WONDERFUL LIFE !!!!

This is Cody on the "Baywatch"!!!!

Cody is living large in his new home and he well deserves it. Cody was rescued by our Humane Officers from an abusive household where he was tied outside on a lead only a foot and a half long, he also came in with injuries to the head, causing him to have cellulitus on the brain. It took Cody several weeks of treatments, requiring two different kinds of eye medicines to be dropped into his eyes four times a day. He was an exceptional patient, never getting upset with us. He was just soo appreciative to be getting love and attention and to be out of the bad situation that he was in. Cody is the most laid back Jack Russell we have ever seen, he will just lay there in your lap and cuddle. Cody shares his new home with the Peck family and his new sister Abbie, a little Toy Fox Terrier. Life has really turned around for Cody and we wish him and his new family many years of happiness!!!!

MAPLE AND PATCHES IN THEIR NEW HOME !!!!

Maple aka "Mable" lounging on her Dad's lap.

Hi there, this is Maple (my new name is Mable) and Patches (now Patti) loving life in our new home. Our former foster Mommy paid a visit to us in our new home with our new Dad, (Bob) and snapped a few pictures of us. We were soo glad to see her. We spent soo much time with her and loved her dearly. Luckily we both got adopted together and live in the same house, so we get to play together constantly and are best pals. The truth be known … we are getting spoiled rotten here. We jump in our new Dad's lap every chance we get, he told us that we have been great company for him. We are soo happy in our new home and we are so happy to have each other. We really have something to be thankful for. Happy Holidays to you all!! Remember "Don't sweat the small stuff" and just be happy to have each other!!!!

Love, Mable and Patti

ABBY IS "GOING HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS" !!!

Abby with her new Mom (Christy Sterner) heading to her new home.

Abby is a Beagle who was surrendered to the shelter at nine years old because her owners could not take care of her anymore. Poor little Abby, had been wondering for the last two months why she ended up at the SPCA. She waited patiently for a new home. It just so happens that Christy Sterner and her family kept checking the SPCA's website looking for a dog and Abby just kept popping up ... so they decided that it was meant to be. They came to see Abby and knew that she was just perfect for them. The day the adoption was to take place they braved 3 or more inches of snow to come out and take Abby home; while all of the local businesses and schools were closing early. Abby will be sharing her home with a cat named "Mister" and Christy's husband (Joe), her son (Curt) and daughter (Carly). Abby is such a social butterfly and loves everybody. We know that Abby has gone to a wonderful home and she really has something to celebrate for the holidays!!!! Congratulations to Abby and her new family!!!!

January 2, 2008 We just received new pictures of Abby - see below!!

MISSY IS DOING GREAT IN HER NEW HOME!!!

Missy sure was a happy girl the day she was adopted and heading out the front door!

For all of you that remember Missy (and there are a lot of you), she is enjoying a wonderful life with the Ullrich family. Missy was here for four months ... waiting and waiting for that forever home. She had many people that cared about her with tons of Guardian Angels, but still no one could adopt her. We took her to lots of adoption events and at the end of the day poor Missy was brought back to the shelter. She had the cutest ears, one stood up and the other one didn't. She was absolutely adorable.

Needless to say, when Alica Ullrich came in and wanted to adopt Missy we were all ecstatic. Missy was smiling from ear to ear too. Alica had a German Shepherd while growing up and loves the breed. Missy has a new name in her new home and it is Berta. Berta is getting very spoiled ... she even has her own chair. Boy, that's a long way from the four months she spent in the shelter. We spoke to Missy aka Berta's Mom and she said that Berta is very fun, loves to take walks (especially on the Battlefield). She loves to play fetch and she loves the rain (yes she's still a crazy gal). Alica said that she thinks Berta would make a great cross country dog because she loves to go for car rides, doesn't matter where she's going. We are soo happy for Missy and her new family and thank you to all of you who were Missy's Guardian Angels and for just loving her!!

RITA GOING HOME WITH HER NEW FAMILY!!!

What a good looking family!!! Rita has finally found a new family after being here for two months. Rita was a Rottie mix about one and a half years old, she was found as a stray and just hoping for a second chance at a good life. She did get a little nervous sometimes, but she would warm up in her own time. Well she must have warmed up to the Noel family because they fell in love with her and it was a very happy day for Rita, the Noels' and all of us here. We have talked to the Noel family and Rita is doing great and they are extremely happy to have Rita in their life. Best wishes to the Noel family!!!

JUNIOR HAS FINALLY FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME!!!!

Junior ready for the Ravens game in his Ravens cape ... pure Baltimore!

From Junior's new Mom:

"Here is Junior, or Spud Junior as he's become known as. My fiance and I are known as "the spud couple" since we're Irish, so when we called him Junior, the Spud just got tacked on. Spud does suit him too, though. I also just wanted to thank you again for all that you do. I have only had him two weeks, but Junior is already such a part of my family. I can't remember life before he was there to greet me at the door when I got home, before he was there to keep my feet warm while I graded papers, to talk to on long walks, and to nuzzle me while I watch tv. I just couldn't be more thrilled, and everyone keeps saying how wonderful that I gave Junior a nice home, but really I lucked out too! Thanks again, Kerry"

Junior being loved on by Kerry's fiance - Junior sure is loving it!!!!

Congratulations to Junior (Spud Jr) and his new family!!!!

CLOUDY UNDERWENT SURGERY AND WAS ADOPTED TO A WONDERFUL FAMILY THE NEXT DAY!

Cloudy with her new Mom, Jessica Tye. Look at them smiles!!!

Cloudy came in as a very matted, dirty stray with some stinky breath that would knock you over. Once again, Shags Grooming in Hanover came and picked up another shaggy stray dog, got her all cleaned up, looking pretty and brought Cloudy back to us looking like a million bucks. You should have seen her bouncing around like she was on Cloud Nine!! For some dogs, grooming is a necessity so that perspective adopters will see their true beauty, being out on the streets alone can be really rough on them. The next obstacle was her teeth. Her teeth were in very rough shape, almost black with tartar and the smell - eeewww. If she wasn't soo cute you wouldn't have been able to stand to hold her. So Cloudy went to the vet on November 27th, she had her teeth cleaned and had to have 5 teeth pulled. We picked her up the next day and can you believe Cloudy was adopted on that very day! Cloudy was adopted by the Tye family and is one lucky girl, yes ... she is going to be spoiled rotten. The Tyes' are going to send us some pictures of Cloudy at her new home and we will be sure to post them. Another Happy Tail!!! We are soo happy for Cloudy but we really miss that little stinker (Hee Hee)!!!!

January 4, 2008 We just received new pictures of Cloudy - see below!!

UPDATE !!! NEW PICS OF CLOUDY aka DAISY !!!

Pictured in front: Kate, Cloudy (her new name is Daisy) & Abby, in back: Jessica and George Tye.

Cloudy's new Mom Jessica wrote us and here is what she said:
"She is doing very well and we all have fallen in love with her. It seems like she has been with us forever! She settled right into our home and hearts. Daisy enjoys going for walks with her new "sisters" Abby and Kate, and makes them laugh alot when she wriggles around on her back, waving her front paws in the air. She also loves to snuggle and has been a terrific companion for her new "daddy", George, who is recuperating from a recent surgery. When we took her to her new vet, the staff thought she was the cutest little dog. She has the perfect temperament......gentle, playful and loyal. We could not be happier. Thanks for all of the good work you all do."

KATRINA IS DOING GREAT IN HER NEW HOME!

Katrina was a four year old beautiful Husky who was surrendered to the shelter by her family who dearly loved her, but could no longer care for. Katrina knew that life gets rough sometimes and that her family loved her, and luckily she found a new home that loves her as well. Her new family sent us these pictures and a letter about how she is doing.

Dear SPCA of Adams County,

"On January 23, 2007 we adopted Katrina, a 4 year old Husky from your facility. We wanted to take a moment to update you on how she is doing. We renamed Katrina to "Kahlee". She has adjusted well to our home. Due to being through so many families we felt that training classes would be necessary. We enrolled her in adult training classes at Blue Ridge K-9 Training Facility and she has mastered the basics. The trainer said that he would give her the "most improved" award of the class. She gets 2 walks a day, 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes after dinner every night. She loves her walks. We keep this consistent to stick with her routine. She knows when it is time to "strut her stuff" and get praise from all of those passing by because she is SO PRETTY!!! "

"Kahlee is getting along well with Jack our cat. They enjoy chasing each other around the house and playing hide and seek. They have become good friends. Kahlee enjoys her daily walks through the battlefield, weekend car rides, belly rubs and time chasing squirrels in the back yard."

Katrina (Kahlee) with Jack (her friend the cat).

"We are happy to say that Kahlee has found her last family. We give her lots of love and treat her as our own child. We are a young couple and plan to build a family some day but for now it is just a family of four- Mike, Myself, Kahlee and Jack."

"We are so grateful to have her in our lives. We are much healthier mentally and physically since she became part of the family. It is not easy to adopt a dog that has been through so much change during the first few years of their lifetime. It is, however, the most rewarding decision we have ever made. With routine, daily exercise, a warm home and lots of love Kahlee has finally found happiness and security."

"Thank you for all that you do at the shelter. I hope that many other families will open up their hearts and homes and give a pet a chance. The rewards will come back ten fold!"

It sure sounds like Kahlee and her new forever family are very happy! We always love to hear the happy tails of former residents from the shelter, it makes are jobs so worthwhile! Congratulations to pretty Kahlee and her new family!!

SCARLETT HAD A ROUGH ROAD,
BUT SHE IS DOING GREAT NOW!!!

Scarlett (her new name is Java) on a walk with her new Mom (Bicky Redman).

Scarlett (a young Schipperke) about one and a half years old was running as a stray for quite some time with her little baby (Brittania). She would hide in the woods and when the right opportunity arose, she would leave Brittania hiding in the woods and head out in search of food. Eventually Scarlett and her baby were caught and brought in to the shelter. At first Scarlett was very protective over her little baby and not real social. But that didn't take long ... once she knew that we weren't going to harm her or her little baby she begged to be loved on. Brittania was taken up to adoption and adopted right away, unfortunately, Scarlett tested positive for Heartworm. Heartworm infected dogs that go untreated can die and even treated dogs must go through a long period of uncomfortable treatment. The treatment is administered in two doses each day for two days, followed by several weeks of inactivity to give the dog’s system a chance to absorb the dead worms. Exertion can cause the dead worms to dislodge, travel to the lungs, and cause death.

Scarlett was such a good little patient. When she returned from the vet, she could not be active for a whole month. She stayed in a crate upstairs with one of our employees, never barking once, and had to be carried up and down the stairs to go outside to use the bathroom. She would lay right in the lap of the employee while they were working. We all fell in love with her and were so worried that she would not make it. A month later, she had survived and found a new home with Bicky Redman, and Dumplins (the cat). She is one lucky little girl. She has a wonderful new home. Her new Mom, takes her for at least a half hour walk every morning before she goes to work, and then an hour walk in the evening. Scarlett even gets to go to work with Bicky sometimes. We sure miss that little girl and wish her and her new family the very best!!!!

Scarlett and Bicky.
