2008 Winners!!!
Battlefield Harley Davidson Pet Photo
Contest

Let's give a hand to the
2008 Battlefield Harley Davidson Pet Photo Contest Winners!!! The
competition was tough and we thank all of the participants and the
voters for the support of the Adams County SPCA. We could not do what
we do without the support of caring people like yourselves. Over the
years, the Battlefield Harley Davidson has given the ACSPCA and other
worthy organizations much needed and appreciated support. One such
fundraising event is the Annual Pet Photo Contest with all proceeds
going to the Adams County SPCA. Each year there are more and more
photos of animals (cats, dogs, iguanas - you name it) all dressed
up in Harley gear or just their cute selves. Some of the animals have
also been adopted from the ACSPCA. We, the staff and the animals thank
the Battlefield Harley Davidson and the voters for their continued
support!!! Here are the winners for 2008!!!

September
1st Annual Pennsylvania Week for the Animals
Childrens'Art and Essay Contest: "Unchaining
Buddy"
Awards Ceremony & Open House at the Adams County SPCA
Monday, September 22nd
6:30pm @ Adams County SPCA, Gettysburg
Teachers and Students statewide Invited to Participate!
Children and Animals - Teaching Kindness
In the weeks preceding the PA Week for the Animals, teachers and students in participating classrooms across the state are invited to take part in a children's Art and Essay contest on the subject of "Buddy Unchained." Through their artwork and writing, kids are asked to have Buddy the Chained Dog explain how he feels being chained outside all alone, and why he wants to come inside and live with the family. Stories may also include Harriet the Cat helping.
The movement to free dogs from a life on a chain is growing rapidly nationwide; it is now well recognized that chaining is not only inhumane to dogs but dangerous to people as well. Many communities and states now have laws limiting, or banning, chaining.
Our art/essay contest is to help bring awareness of this to Pennsylvania's
children. The artwork & essays will be displayed at Adams County SPCA
in Gettysburg. There will be 3 winners selected from the Art entries
and 3 winners from the essay entries -Each of the 6 winning children
will be recognized at the Awards Ceremony & Open House on Monday,
September 22nd. Each child will also be awarded a copy of the wonderful
book "Buddy Unchained," from the nationally recognized non-profit
organization Dogs Deserve Better, which advocates against chaining.
"Buddy Unchained" is the ASPCA Henry Bergh Award Winner in the Companion
Animal Category for 2007 and also the HSUS 2007 KIND Children's book
Award Winner.
Please send all artwork and essays (one-page only) to:
Adams County SPCA, 11 Goldenville Road, Gettysburg, PA 17325
Phone 717-334-8876 ext. 29
